GAIA : worlds within worlds,
Relief Prints, 22" x 30" 2016-2017
The hypothesis proposes that living organisms and inorganic material are part of a dynamical system that shapes the Earth's biosphere, and maintains the Earth as a fit environment for life. In some Gaia theory approaches, the Earth itself is viewed as an organism with self-regulatory functions.

The Gaia Project is a celebration of the fragile ecology that populates the land / seascapes, and where the two meet. Executed in a series of prints, artist books and sculptural objects, the imagery is the result of extensive research at museums, natural history museums, and in situ location visits. It is loosely based from personal interpretation of James Lovelock’s Gaia Theory, in which we exist within a closely interconnected system and that nothing exists in singularity. the work plays with these ideas by using globe-like compositions to either isolate or form boundaries.

Stemming from an ongoing interest micro and macro Ecologies and our interwoven presence, this work deals specifically in the Ecologies of the coastal areas. From studies of natural history collections, museums from personal sketches and recordings and sketches in situ in the natural environment, the work has emerged. The series is populated with creatures and vegetation, sometimes obscured or morphed from their original forms to reference ideas of shifting evolution of species and environments.
