An investigation into connection, presence, and the poetic entanglements between self and place.

Works in this collection explore interspecies relationships - specifically, focusing on the Monarch Butterfly and the Milkweed Plant—both found in Nova Scotia. These works are records and culminations of direct observation. Milkweed seeds were collected from a plant growing through a crack in a parking lot in Kentville, Nova Scotia, during a Wayzgoose event at Gaspereau Press, a local printing and publishing house. The seeds were germinated and planted in my garden, where they attracted butterflies. These butterflies laid eggs, which hatched into caterpillars. The caterpillars devoured the plants and transformed into chrysalises, from which butterflies emerged. This process was documented over the course of a year through drawings and photographs, and developed into printed matter such as bookworks and flat prints. The pieces express curiosity and wonder in the co evolution of species.
